Realising the rights of persons with disabilities

Staff members of Callan Studies National Institute discuss the challenges and opportunities that face their organisation during a leadership workshop in Port Moresby that was conducted from May 9 to 13th at the Emmaus Retreat Centre in Port Moresby.

Callan Studies National Institute (CSNI) is a higher learning institute within the Network of Callan Services. The institute is established through the Catholic education agency of the diocese of Wewak and is established just like teachers colleges in Papua New Guinea. CSNI is governed by a governing council which is headed currently br Br Kevin Ryan as chair of the board and appointed members in different fields but related to higher education in PNG. The institute develops programs and models of educational programs for special education and conducts training for teachers in the IERCs across the Network of Callan Services.

CSNI also conducts and develops IEPs for children with disabilities and helps teachers of IERCs to implement these IEPs for children with disabilities.  CSNI collaborates with CSNU as the national coordinating agency and provides training for IERCs throughout the Network of Callan Services. Currently CSNI has two regional offices. One in the highlands of PNG in Goroka and Hagen and in Rabaul for the New Guinea Islands region. The institute is based at Wewak with CSNU at Kaindi campus, Wewak.
